2016 sees the 40th Oxenhope Straw Race……..and a new and exciting route!

Due to requirements to keep the highways as clear as possible it has been necessary to divert the first section of the race ‘off-road’.  There will be full details available at registration but should you be planning to use any weird and wonderful contraptions for transporting your bale then these will not be able to negotiate the new section and will therefore need to be left at The Bay Horse in the village and collected as you dash past.  In addition to this, any fancy dress costumes that restrict leg movement might be a challenge on this section so perhaps have a slight rethink and adjust.

Free Rail and Bus Service (any donations happily received)

To avoid congestion in the village you will be able to park in Haworth, Wyedean Weaving at Bridgehouse Mills are providing this space, and on production of your race number take the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway up to Oxenhope.  There will also be parking available, as in previous years, at the finish (just beyond the Dog and Gun) and limited space in the station’s overflow car park on Harry Lane.

There will be a free bus service to transport competitors from Oxenhope Railway up to the start.  To avoid overcrowding you will be allocated a bus time when you come to registration to collect your race numbers, timing chips and swanky t-shirts on Saturday.  We re asking that competitors make use of this service as we have been requested by the police to keep the main road past the Wagon and Horses clear and in past years dropping off has caused some significant delays.
