Welcome to the Oxenhope Straw Race
Straw Race 2015
So Oxenhope Straw Race 2015 is officially over. It was an overwhelming success with 212 teams taking part. The sun shone, and let’s face it that had been in doubt in the preceding weeks, the crowds were out in their hundreds and a great day was had by all.
The winning team finished the course in just 15 minutes and 10 seconds! With last across the line taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. Whether you were fast or slow it was an amazing spectacle and a big congratulations to you.
The vast majority of teams entered into the true spirit of the Straw Race and came in fancy dress and I really have to say you all really upped your game this year! The standard of fancy dress costumes just gets better and better. As one of the judges my job is becoming more and more difficult every year. My particular favourite was little Gordon Mitchell who joined his mum and dad dressed as Mutley, he was such a cutie. We had living statues, an entire Monopoly game, pirates, cheerleaders, Shrek and Princess Fiona (still very much in love) and so many more that I could fill this entire page. As photos start to come through we will post up links so you can see for yourselves or you can check out the Straw Race Twitter feed @strawracefun
As ever, the race could not take place without the support of a whole range of good local folks; The Bay Horse, The Social Club, The Lamb, The Dog and Gun and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway; Keighley Scout Service Team, Cullingworth Scouts, McDowell Transport and Wyedean Weaving; along with a mighty team of volunteers who herded crowds, pulled pints and generally made sure things ran smoothly. A huge thank you to you all, the race just wouldn’t happen without you.
If you were there I hope you had a great day and if you weren’t it would be wonderful to see you next year; provisonal date for the diaries is Sunday 3rd July 2016.
